We are SO HAPPY to report that Cassie has been reunited with her human!

Cassie vanished from her home 8 days ago and never returned. Her dad, Benny, was heartbroken.

He searched his apartment complex and neighborhood for hours. He found Cassie’s collar about a block and a half away, but there was no sign of her.

Fast forward to Tuesday.

Animal Control brought Cassie to The Animal Foundation. She was in rough shape.  The skin at the bottom of her jaw had been ripped off from some type of trauma, possibly a bad fall.

Our team scanned Cassie for a microchip and found she had one. But finding Benny took some detective work. While our Admissions team continued trying to find Benny, our vet services team took Cassie to a specialist for surgery to fix her jaw.

After a series of phone calls and Facebook messages, our team tracked Benny down.

When we called to tell him that Cassie had been found, he was stunned.

“I was really happy. I broke down crying because I wanted to see her so bad. I’ve missed her,” Benny said.

This morning, we watched as Benny and Cassie were reunited in our lobby. He hugged and kissed her while crying.

“I’m so happy. I’m so glad she’s back with me again," Benny said.

Benny and Cassie’s story highlights the value of microchipping pets and how important it is to keep them up to date. Even if a pet is microchipped, if the information isn't current, we may not be able to find the owner no matter how hard we try.

We want to reunite as many animals as possible with their owners, and it's an honor to get Cassie the emergency surgery she needed until that happened. Thank you to everyone who donated to Cassie’s care.

“Thank you for helping me be reunited with my baby girl again. Thank you so much,” Benny said.

Here at The Animal Foundation, we established our CARE Fund for animals who need special care in extreme circumstances. 100% of all donations go directly to medical care for animals like Cassie who desperately need us.

Update on Cassie

Cassie will be getting surgery today or first thing tomorrow morning to fix the skin around her jaw.  We are still trying to find her owner.

Cassie is quickly becoming a staff favorite at the vet hospital where she is awaiting surgery because of her sweet demeanor.

Cassie Needs Surgery to Heal Her Mouth

Cassie 1 300px.jpg

Cassie looks beautiful with her long, soft hair, but a closer look reveals she’s in a great deal of pain.

The skin at the bottom of her jaw has been ripped off from some type of trauma, possibly a bad fall.

Her chin is infected, and she’s having trouble eating.

Her hair is matted - her mouth in too much pain to groom herself.

Cassie needs emergency surgery – her injury is deep and infected.

To keep her comfortable tonight, we’re giving her antibiotics and medication to manage her pain.

Cassie has a microchip and belongs to someone. We’re trying to find her owner. In the meantime, we’re making sure Cassie gets the help she deserves.

Cassie needs to go to a specialist for surgery to repair her face. Your donation can ensure that Cassie gets the medical care she needs and the second chance she deserves to be reunited with her owner.
